A tooled leather corset belt with matching narrow fashion belt, displayed on a rock with a blurred background of purple cacti. The belts features intricate floral and scroll engravings in dark brown on a natural veg-tan leather base.

FAQs

Absolutely. My two hands have been creating all things leather here at Western Skies since 2008. (*Merchandising is sourced from other small businesses)

  • I maintain a selection of ready-to-ship pieces available in my online shop.
  • Studio visits to shop in person can be scheduled as well.
  • Design something entirely unique with a commissioned piece.

Prices can range quite a bit depending on the size, style, amount of tooling, and color. Check out my specs and price breakdown for the most common styles here to tally up a quick estimate. I'll be able to give you a more precise number range once we've gone over your specific design requests.

For the sake of transparency, I like to have the final numbers agreed upon before you purchase a deposit. Please, let me know if you have a set budget, or an ideal number/range and I'm happy to accomodate and/or discuss options.

Pictures are worth a thousand words! Browse past works here or on Instagram for inspiration. Send screenshots of things you like and dislike (you won't hurt my feelings). I find it helpful to think big picture to small detail and even more helpful if you write a brief caption explaining specifically what you like/don't like about the photo.

1. Overall style/vibe - how would you describe your personal style and which photos best reflect your overall taste? Traditional, modern, floral, southwestern, coastal, cosmic, art nuveau, geometric, symmetrical/asymmetrical, etc...

2. Colors - natural leather, dyed edges, painted details...

3. Borders- Bold or delicate, specific stamp patterns, etc...

4. Personalization- Brand/initials/monogram, quote/psalm, favorite flowers or animals, anything that holds special meaning to you. Elements like these are my absolute favorite to work into a design. This is what makes it special to you so don't be afraid to mention any crazy idea you might have.

For the most part, I work on commissions in the order they were received but also prefer to group them together a handful at a time in what I call "batches". Wait time varies throughout the year but generally falls between 8-12 months. Work on commissions is scheduled between teaching commitments, online shop updates, and my my two wildly unpredictable teenagers at home.

Orders are typically processed within 1–2 business days. Delivery times vary by location, but most orders arrive within 3–7 business days. You’ll receive tracking details once your order ships.

I do not submit proofs of designs. Most sketches are too rough for anyone aside from me to fully understand. I rely on the information you give me prior to that point to guide the design. The more information you provide up front, the easier it is for me to create something that accurately captures your personal style.

Changes to leather carving cannot be made on finished works. Small changes can be made prior to custom work beginning. Substantial changes will require a new contract and possible price adjustment. Deposits are non-refundable but do not have an expiration date.
